It's true and I hate to admit it, but I would rather sit on the couch and eat chocolate frosting out of the container while watching reruns of Samantha Who? and What Not to Wear than go outside and water a garden. I would rather stay in bed and read for hours than water my houseplants. I literally have two houseplants and they are the kind that can droop over to the floor in need of hydration and I can water them and then they pop back up alive and well. This is the only plant I can manage....but, I am outnumbered in my family. I have a Master Gardener for a Mom, a 6 year old daughter that actually grew a pumpkin plant from the seed that came from her Halloween creation and kept it alive outside all winter (I didn't know that, before she had to nurture that thing all winter, pumpkins should grow when it is warm..oops..wrong season, there are seasons in the desert?) and the hardest thing to grasp-a husband who decided to start our own landscaping business. Landscaping???...I had dreams of a small cafe that sold books and magazines....or how about a scrapbooking store.....maybe a shoe store, yes, I love cute shoes. No? Landscaping, in the desert, okay, if you insist.

So, I try to not only survive, but help with this endeavor learning very reluctantly about compost, timers, reseeding grass (you have to keep putting seeds down, wow that seems like a lot of work) and now as we move into the future, becoming "green" and staying that way. "Oh" I say to him "so you want me to actually like USE the recycling bin, okay I think I can do that!

So, I write this blog for all of you out there who think you can't learn what a Ruellia is or how to start your own compost pile while wearing Jimmy Choos. You can, if I did. We have a lot to learn so let's get to it!
